Campaign Setting

Shelan is ruled by the great King Matteas. The king is well loved by his people and has maintained a nearly 500 year isolationist policy. The people are hardy and as much as possible is produced within the country. While this has led to periods of shortage, the people have grown hardy and resilient.

Beast races and those not among the “goodly races” are generally hunted and are unwelcome. They’re seen as nothing more than pests to be exterminated. Women fulfill many traditional roles in many cases. There are no female soldiers and none have ever been known to be a ruler. However, many have made their living as shopkeepers and tradespeople given the trade isn’t blacksmithing.

The country is mostly human but human variants such as half-orc, half-elf and halflings exist. Half-orcs due to their beast race heritage are looked down upon but are not actively hunted. Dwarves are seen in lesser numbers but provide a good deal of the country’s metal.
